Men's Health
Men’s health is the key to confidence and a fulfilling life. At Grand Medical, we pay special attention to diagnosing and preventing diseases that directly impact men’s quality of life. One of the key procedures is prostate ultrasound—a precise and safe examination that helps detect changes in prostate tissue at early stages. We highlight prostate ultrasound separately because many men do not realize how important this procedure is.
What is the Prostate?

The prostate (or prostate gland) is a small organ of the male reproductive system located below the bladder, surrounding the initial part of the urethra. It performs several vital functions, including producing secretions that are part of semen and ensuring the normal function of the urinary and reproductive systems.
However, with age or due to various factors, the prostate can develop inflammatory processes, tumors, or other pathologies. This is why regular prostate ultrasound is essential for the timely detection of diseases.
Why is Prostate Ultrasound Important?
Many men underestimate the importance of regular prostate exams. This is not just a routine diagnostic procedure—ultrasound helps detect:
- Prostate adenoma, which can cause urinary problems
- Prostatitis, a chronic inflammatory condition that negatively affects overall well-being and sexual function
- Cysts and tumors
- Malignant tumors at early stages, which is crucial for successful treatment
How is Prostate Ultrasound Performed?
At Grand Medical, we use two examination methods:
Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) – the most informative method, where a probe is inserted through the rectum
Transabdominal ultrasound – performed through the abdominal wall, used when TRUS is contraindicated. However, it is less informative, as skin and subcutaneous fat can interfere with ultrasound wave penetration.
Both methods are carried out considering the patient’s individual needs, ensuring maximum comfort and safety.
When Should You Consider a Prostate Ultrasound?
- Frequent or painful urination
- Weak urine flow, delays, or blood in urine
- Discomfort or pain in the lower abdomen or lower back
- Problems with erection or ejaculation
- Suspected infertility
- Monitoring treatment progress or preparing for surgery
How to Prepare for the Procedure?
- For transabdominal ultrasound, drink about 1 liter of water an hour before the procedure.
- For TRUS, cleanse the bowel using a micro enema or laxatives.
- All preparation instructions will be provided in advance when you schedule your appointment.
