Description

Learn more about the bacterium, how the test works at the clinic and at home, and how to prepare on the page Helicobacter pylori breath test.

Who the test is for

Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium that lives in the lining of the stomach. It is one of the main causes of gastritis and of stomach and duodenal ulcers, and it often causes no obvious symptoms for a long time.

Consider the test if you have:

  • stomach pain or a heavy feeling, especially after eating;
  • heartburn, nausea, frequent belching or bloating;
  • chronic gastritis or a history of stomach ulcers;
  • finished H. pylori treatment and need a follow-up check;
  • long-term painkillers (NSAIDs) planned.

How the test works

  1. Order the kit here online or by phone on +371 255 89 505 and choose an Omniva parcel locker.
  2. Receive the kit in 2–3 days. Delivery is free.
  3. Take the test at home following the instructions: first breath sample into a bag, two tablets, then a second breath sample after the set time. About 30 minutes in total.
  4. Send the samples back from any Omniva parcel locker. The return label is already in the kit.
  5. Get your result by email within 24 hours of the samples reaching the clinic.

Preparation: important for an accurate result

If these rules are not followed, the result may be falsely negative.

  • 2 weeks: no proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole, pantoprazole, etc.);
  • 6 hours before the test: nothing to eat;

Do not stop treatment your doctor has prescribed without talking to a doctor first. If you are not sure whether you can take the test, call us on +371 255 89 505.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?

No, you can order the test without a referral.

Is the test suitable for children?

Yes, it is suitable for children and older patients too. If a child will take the test, please contact us before ordering.

How will I get the result?

We email the result to the address in your order within 24 hours of the samples reaching the clinic.

How is this different from a pharmacy test?

Your samples are analysed at the clinic on certified medical equipment, so the result does not depend on how you read a test strip. It is the same method we use in the clinic.

What if something went wrong during the test?

Call us on +371 255 89 505 before you send the samples, and we will help you decide what to do.

Can I take the test at the clinic instead?

Yes. The breath test at the clinic costs €75 and takes about 30 minutes. More about the in-clinic test.
