Reasons to consult

When to see a psychiatrist

An online psychiatrist consultation helps you understand a condition that gets in the way of everyday life: anxiety, depression, sleep problems and other changes in how you feel.

Anxiety and panic attacks

Constant worry, inner tension and attacks of intense fear that interfere with everyday life.

Low mood and apathy

A prolonged low mood, loss of interest in usual activities, lack of energy and motivation.

Sleep problems

Difficulty falling asleep, frequent waking and other persistent sleep changes that affect how you feel.

Intrusive thoughts and fears

Recurring anxious thoughts, phobias, compulsive actions and the distress that comes with them.

Difficulty concentrating

Reduced attention, increased fatigue and changes in performance whose cause needs to be clarified.

Stress and emotional difficulties

Difficulty adjusting after stressful events, significant emotional changes and difficulties in everyday life.

You don’t need to work out a diagnosis yourself before getting in touch. If your emotional state, sleep or behaviour has changed noticeably and gets in the way of your usual life, a psychiatrist consultation will help assess the situation and decide whether further help is needed.

Psychiatric appointment

What the consultation includes

An online psychiatric appointment is a full medical consultation. The doctor does not just listen but professionally assesses your condition in order to offer the right help.

What to prepareA list of the medicines you take and previous medical reports — you can upload them to your personal account on the booking portal. It helps to remember when the first symptoms appeared and how they have changed.

Discussing your symptoms and history

The psychiatrist clarifies your symptoms, how long they have lasted, the circumstances in which they appeared, past illnesses and any treatment you have had.

Assessing your condition

The doctor assesses your mental state and how the symptoms affect everyday life, considers possible causes and whether further tests are needed.

Treatment and follow-up plan

You receive individual recommendations. If there are medical indications, the doctor discusses medication, adjusting it, or the need for further consultations and follow-up.

Online appointment

How the online consultation works

A phone, tablet or computer is enough to talk to the doctor — you don’t need to install any extra software.

Booking and preparation

Choose a time on Piearsta.lv or eVeselībasPunkts.lv, or contact reception. The online consultation is paid on the portal when you book.

Consultation by video call

The video call link appears on the booking portal 5 minutes before the start. You will need internet, a camera, a microphone and a quiet place where you can talk confidentially.

Doctor’s recommendations

After the consultation, the psychiatrist discusses the next steps, possible treatment and whether a follow-up appointment is needed.

You can securely upload medical documents and test results in advance to your personal account on the booking portal so that the doctor can review them. If you are abroad, let the doctor know at the start of the consultation.

Treatment online

Can I get treatment and a prescription online?

During an online consultation, the psychiatrist can assess whether medication is needed, discuss how previously prescribed medicines are working and adjust treatment if necessary. If there are medical indications, the doctor issues an e-prescription. Some groups of medicines in Latvia have special prescribing requirements, so decisions about medication and prescriptions are always made individually, and in some cases an in-person visit may be needed.

If you are abroad, please note that whether you can obtain medicine with a Latvian e-prescription depends on the country you are in.

When an online consultation is not suitable. A remote appointment is not suitable for every situation: if your condition worsens significantly, the doctor may recommend an in-person assessment. If there is an immediate danger to life or safety — for example, an intention to harm yourself or others — seek emergency help. In Latvia call 113 or 112; abroad, contact the local emergency service.

I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I was able to book — especially considering I had only been in Latvia for a couple of days. Very convenient.

Frequently asked questions about the psychiatrist consultation

Answers to the questions people ask most often before their first consultation.

The doctor asks about how you feel and the history of your condition, assesses the situation and discusses the next steps with you. The consultation lasts about 45 minutes.

No, you don’t need a referral. You can book yourself on the booking portal, by phone or on WhatsApp. If you are not sure whether a psychiatrist is the right specialist, leave a request on the website — the administrator will contact you during working hours and help you decide.

Yes. The doctor can prescribe treatment, assess how well your current medicines work and are tolerated, and adjust therapy if needed. If there are medical indications, the psychiatrist issues an e-prescription. Decisions about medication are made individually, and in some cases the doctor may recommend an in-person visit.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor: they assess your mental state from a medical point of view, can make a diagnosis and prescribe medication. A psychologist is not a doctor and does not prescribe medicines — they help through conversation and psychological methods. These specialists often complement each other.

An in-person visit may be needed if assessing your condition requires a physical examination or additional tests, or if your wellbeing worsens significantly — the doctor will tell you during the consultation. If there is a threat to life or safety, do not wait for an appointment: in Latvia call 113 or 112.
