About the doctor
Viktorija Snigura is a certified ultrasound doctor with more than 20 years of professional experience.
Before moving to Latvia she worked in medical institutions in Ukraine and ran a private practice. She has considerable experience in ultrasound diagnostics of adult patients, including intensive-care ultrasound at an emergency hospital.
In her work the doctor aims for accurate, comprehensive and clinically meaningful diagnostics: she pays attention to the quality of the examination, assesses the findings in light of the ultrasound picture and the clinical situation, and explains the result.
Areas of practice
Ultrasound diagnostics. Viktorija Snigura performs ultrasound of:
- the abdominal organs;
- the thyroid gland;
- soft tissues;
- the knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle and hip joints;
- the nerves in the carpal and cubital tunnels.
The doctor assesses the pathological changes found and carries out their differential diagnosis.
Vascular ultrasound:
- examination of the brachiocephalic vessels and the vessels of the head;
- assessment of the vessel wall;
- assessment of blood flow;
- assessment of haemodynamic parameters.
Echocardiography — ultrasound of the heart:
- assessment of the heart structures;
- assessment of the functional parameters of the heart;
- assessment of the contractile function of the myocardium;
- speckle-tracking — a modern ultrasound technique for assessing myocardial deformation and function.
Elastography and differential diagnosis:
- compression elastography (sonoelastography);
- shear-wave elastography;
- assessment of tissue elasticity;
- differential diagnosis of lesions;
- assessment of the spread of a pathological process into the surrounding tissues.
These methods give additional information about the properties of the tissues examined and are used together with conventional ultrasound.

Why ultrasound is calm and safe
Ultrasound is an examination that uses sound waves: the doctor can see the internal organs, tissues and how blood flows through the vessels. Examinations of the heart and vessels are just as safe. The examinations are simple, safe and suitable for regular check-ups.
- No radiation. Only sound waves, so the examination is harmless.
- Painless. You lie on a couch while the doctor moves the probe over the area being examined.
